The Champion

The glare of the morning sun

Is blinding

The stage has been set

The gauntlet had been dropped

The challenged met

The gallant steed beneath me

Is excited

Rearing with anticipation

To speed down the soft dirt

Of the jousting lane.

My visor is lowered

The flag dropped

Onward two heroic warriors

Thundered towards each other

To meet their destiny

Lances at the ready

Aimed straight ahead

Like lightning cracking

within a storm

Lances splintered

Into a thousand pieces.

One warrior remained mounted

The other’s soul

Seeped from the mortal wounds

Leaving behind the lifeless remains

Of a brave knight

The Champion

Atop his steed

Prances as if on parade

To accept the trophy

From his once maiden in distress

“Her Loving Heart”
