Life Unscripted

Life is chocked full of unknowns with plenty of has been’s, never were’s, don’t care’s, shoulda-been’s and wanna-be’s. I’ve never been quite sure just where I fit in… or if.

LIFE UNSCRIPTED

I’ve traveled the road un-traveled,
seen sites that were seldom seen,
worshiped where there were no spirits
as I’ve dreamed the 'American dream.'

I’ve longed, as the only one longing
laughed when it wasn’t much fun,
lived when living wasn’t easy,
stood fast when others said run!

I’ve loved when it wasn’t mutual,
experiencing the emptiest of feelings.
I’ve prayed the unanswered prayer
and forgiven as I was still healing.

I’ve sung when there was no music,
listened when I heard no sound,
written when I had no words,
sought that which is still unfound,

I’ve spoken when no one listened
and listened when no one spoke.
There were times I counted my blessings,
and times they all went up in smoke.

I’ve spent much which I’d yet to earn
as I’ve traveled this lifelong path,
a journey filled with emotion,
from tears to the occasional laugh.

There is much that I’ve yet to consider
as I ponder that which I’ve yet to learn.
There is much that I’ve yet to say
……bridges I’ve yet to burn.

I’ve traveled the road un-traveled,
seen sites that were seldom seen,
worshiped where there were no spirits,
but I have dreamed that 'American dream'.

Life is a gift. Live it!

It's usually best to cross a bridge and leave it unburned. You never know when you'll have to retreat. There's a kid down the block that drives a low rider pickup with "Life Unscripted" painted boldly on it. He dresses like a hooligan and looks like one. Can't be all bad though he works at the local Petsmart and when in uniform looks pretty normal. I know...book and cover. If you want a photo of the truck for your poem I can take one. Patrick

You have many pieces that I consider my 'favorite' but this one goes in with my 'favorites of favorite'. Insightful with perfect rhythm. Excellent.

Burned too many bridges myself...and sang a few songs without music, but I think life goes on, no matter what we have seen...hopefully it goes on longer than we would like, because there is no other way out...e

Oh, the sights I've seen! Your work reads like a Hank Williams song. Would have loved to travel along.

Great piece of writing here, Dick. I have probably been down some of the same road you have at one time or another. The American Dream, for me, was always just around the bend, or just over that hill, or . . . Well, you can figure it out.
