The crew of Apollo 11. Left to right: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. Sadly the space program as we know it has ended.

July 20th of 69 they left the Cape.
Fighting gravity they did escape.
Trip to another body taking shape.

Who was it took them back?
As the pilot he had the knack.
Michael Collins was right on track.

They were the first people on the moon.
Who was to know it would come that soon?
Many thought we were crazy as a loon.

Neil Armstrong was first to descend.
Buzz Aldrin was next to set the trend.
That was the beginning, not the end.

Of all the things this nation has wasted cubic money on, the space program was not among them. The return is beyond estimate. Sadly we lack a vision to continue and I'm afraid it's not just about money. Patrick

That was the beginning and now it seems to be coming to an end, but in his review of my recent poem "NASA Shutting Down" Chip Bergeron suggests that there is still hope. We'll all be watching, I guess.

Nice one Lowell. Thanks Dick
