Mirage

What would it take to get you to see me
I mean really see me
What would it take to get you to acknowledge me
I mean really acknowledge me

You come and go
Flit in and out of my life
Rather like the swallows outside.
Dipping low into sight
Only to disappear again

Creating havoc
With your debonair smile
Making me dream
With your smooth words
And gentle ways.

Suave and slick guy that you are
How did you manage
To wangle your way into my heart?

I tell myself not to trust you
But then you come and talk to me
And all my resolutions melt away
When you look at me…

How do I know what you’ll do?
Whether you’ll just disappear –
Like everyone else
A fleeting mirage…

You just did.
