Its hues are taken from the light

Which summer's suns fling pure bright

                         In scattered and prismatic hues

                         That sunflower bow and smile

                         Crepe myrtle blossoms vibrant song

                         Butterfly bodelia fragrance form

Sweetest air from all that's light and fair

Flower Market street to bloom and shine

Not in rout of noise and wine

Not trampled by the rushing crowd

Not in paved streets and cities proud

                        From danger safe blighting free

Pure simple artless let it be

Who does not love a flower

                        A nosegay of love eternal

Be it love rose to rose

                        An emblem of the giver

I am swept away not only by the freshness of your phrasing, but also by the risk you take: "Pure simple artless let it be". This is gold!

Amen! Pure, simple, artless, indeed - consumate, uncomplicated, ingenuous - so be it. Your first two lines are beautifully old school, and 'nosegay' is a word one rarely hears for bouquet or posy. Sweetly and fragrantly constructed. Lady Mary Ann. Your poetic gift continues to excel. Enjoyed. Peace to you ... richard

ah for ladies in waist-pinching frocks
and the perfume of roses!
days still lived out in a few places, very
