Journey Begins

Light and jagged the crisp snow did rest
a shimmering hoarfrost wavered in the air
whilst the broken shards of color poured outwards
as if a rainbow had broken in the spring chill
offset by the mush of grey
sloshed by cars traveling my way
the cracked asphalt crying in concrete agony
i was on my path
certain in my ambition
to find the lover always ahead
chasing dawn in every coming day
.
I imagine to the drivers i seemed odd
my green tunic stark against the snow
as if i was the usher for spring
my thumb extended in hopes
to bring a little life to them that day
while searching myself for warmth
afforded by thier charity
the warm smile as I entered a car
was given and received,
as we both hoped and dreamed,
a little break from monotony
.
as we transversed the countryside
exchanging stories and the ponderings
of the world that was and could be
we found kinship and solace
in another mile beckoning
