A CONVERSATION

Our words haunted the natural world,
bouncing across ambition's immaculate table.
He scoffed and a gravestone rose, unadorned,
out of nothingness like a tongue.
"Will you lose this chance, man,
for the sake of poetry? Get with it."
Then I said: "Will you deny the unknown
for the simple pleasures of certainty?
Your cup may hold any elixir or silence,
breath of a new song, unalterable,
burning edges of dream."
He just laughed.
