They could have been girls and boys
with dreams morphing into
... and from love.
Where erudition aspires
to reach for something more
than a cliché. You know,
the proverbial bar
always set higher.
But the egg never found her sperm.
Each month she dropped her half,
him and hers, into a sea of blood
now petrifying in a super absorbent
garbage dump, never sparked into life.
Snuffed beneath a mountain of hot dogs,
dog crap, kitty litter, paper, plastic....
It doesn’t matter,
in an anaerobic atmosphere
(yes, you are right, that is an oxymoron),
all life hardens... like lost thoughts on:
What is love?

The could have beens of life...
This poem struck a chord. The imagery within is vivid, yet stark...like the could have beens in life.

| The best poetry starts with a cry or moan. This is no exception, Sara. The imagery powers the meaning in this stark, honest write...Lin |
