To Brianna
By Sherry Bach
Years ago it came time for your graduation
And I was asked for a song
To play at your presentation
I can't believe all these years are gone
I originally wanted two boys
Then they said it was you
But you weren't making any noise
I panicked and was scared, what could I do
Suddenly you were all right
Seconds seemed like years
Your little eyes shined so bright
Their warmth melted all my fears
You had amazing hair right from the start
Long black piles of it sticking straight up in the air
It turned brown, almost blonde in the front part
Now it's just plain beautiful, the kind that makes you stare
At nine months old it was clear to see
That dancing was one of your loves
Six years of ballet and jazz soon came to be
The routines, the costumes, all fit you like a glove
But life moves us on to other things
Basketball, softball, horses, goats, fiddle lessons and boys
A year is a mystery unfolding as I watch what each brings
A little tears and sorrow, but mostly parental joys
You're strong, funny, talented and smart
And from the moment I heard the word girl
You've had a special piece of my heart
If I had to describe you in one word it would be pearl
Strong, precious and smooth, but willing to be formed
Within the shell of your heavenly father's will
You've had a special purpose since the day you were born
I pray that you discover it and within him let your heart be still
