Third Eye

I try to think with my Third Eye

and not with my Third Leg

‘cause all of life’s hardships

call for nothing but a level head.

I can’t afford

to think with anything but my own mind

since it’s like we’re here one day

and gone the next because of Father Time.

Honorable is the one

who can control himself whenever he’s tested.

When adversity strikes

is when our true colors are manifested.

Typically, everybody is fine

when things are going well,

but can you handle the hard times

that make you wanna yell?

This is when you find out who is who

more than any other time.

I can’t stand phonies who only come around

when the sun seems to shine.

The Third Eye is blind

when both ears are closed

to constructive criticism

that comes from someone

who wants you to grow.

It’s so common

for people to reject constructive criticism.

This normally pertains

to how some youth deal with parental wisdom.

Pride can be so dangerous!

It can drastically mislead

any single one of us

by causing us to think

that help is what we don’t need.

I try to think with my Third Eye

and not through somebody else’s

‘cause this world is cold.

It’s like 40 degrees below Celsius.

Most people don’t make room

for imperfection or mistakes.

They just say: “Too bad!”

especially if they can’t relate.

This world is characterized by hate.

Love has grown cold.

Naïveté thinks

that hearts are extremely different

from the times in which slaves were sold.

But if people didn’t listen to Jesus,

what makes us think

they are going to listen to Barack Obama?

The president’s words are sincere

but his skin color itself

is not going to change

the country’s hate and drama.

He knows this too

and thus doesn’t think

people should be satisfied

until real change is made.

Thousands don’t have jobs

and terrorism has multitudes afraid.

Health care is of deep concern.

The opposition towards his plan is reasonable.

If this is ‘the land of the free’

then no one should be forced

to buy anything

against their own free will!

We humans can never establish world peace.

Too many of us reject celebrating diversity.

People are too indifferent to people’s differences.

Ignorance has its own college and university.

Rush Limbaugh is a notable graduate.

The guy never fails to say something stupid.

Most of his rhetoric is just a sideshow

that doesn’t follow a respectable rubric.

Reasonable ones gets my point!

I say these words ‘cause I choose to think

I don’t follow blind paths and traditions

that could capsize my boat and cause it to sink.

I use my Third Eye at all times

to avoid attitudes that apparently stink.

We all need positive people around us.

These will stick to us

and tell us the truth about ourselves

even during the hard times.

Treasure these individuals!

metaphorically speaking; to be born blind would be a blessing for that third eye. thanks for sharing.

Charles, it appears that your third eye was very active in this insightful write. Thank you for saying things that most people don't like to hear, but is true. =))

Your Third Eye is sharp and sensitive to the needs of the times we live in. You and I think alike although we are vastly different. That says something. You are very fine role model and I hope you're writing reaches far and wide so that others will gain from the wisdom of your Third Eye.
