Between the gaps of the palm fronds,
I took your measure.
Estimated the hands-length
from shoulder-to-shoulder,
lingered over the knot of muscle,
trailed your spine with a phantom fingernail,
and hungrily traced your lips with my tongue.
I took your measure,

liking what I saw.

Behind the screen of blue smoke,
by the flicker of potted torches,
I listened as you spoke,
inserting an accent
because I wanted you to have one;
you should have one.
The depth in your eyes,
so very dark,
calls to my soul in island patois
and drums pound rhythms
to match my heady exhalations.

Beyond the shadows of black tie dancers,
I gauged your motions.
Every languid movement
lionesque—a promise
of sleep-inducing climax.
You never stumbled,
never faltered,
never once
and I heard the roar
you would bring
to the dark
after the last notes had played.

Liking what I saw,
I walked away, leaving you nameless ...
until now.

ahhhh...this was a sensual delight, one of those little fantasies, much done but little revealed. Splendid composition and flow in this.

I especially liked this line...

Damn Ted! Sorry so-and-so. Stole MY thunder. Said what I wanted to say. Well, let me just opine with, You, dear, are in a class all alone. Uh, huh. You are atop the literary mountain. You are Wonder Woman of wordly pursuits. Damn Ted!

I nearly missed this because of your name change. P., Eileen is right when she says you should rule. Reading one of your poems is one of the most pleasurable things I could do in life. Each and every time I am inspired as well as awed by your creations.

Patricia, this is FANTASTIC! This write has so many great descriptions, so many outstanding metaphors, and possesses such a wry and self-assured voice... you can actually "hear" these thoughts flow through the protagonist's mind!

Love this bit:
"Beyond the shadows of black tie dancers,
I gauged your motions.
Every languid movement
lionesque—a promise
of sleep-inducing climax."

Yas...oh yas. A superb write!
