The Battle for Life – of Life (A Villanelle Structured Poem)

~~~~~
He lays forlorn on a battlefield over there,
With wounded and fatality all around;
It's agony perishing alone with abounding despair.
The stench of battle permeating the air,
His field of honor scorched and brown;
He lays forlorn on a battlefield over there.
They attacked in snow extreme cold to bare,
Defended in rain heavy enough to drown;
It's agony perishing alone with abounding despair.
So many gallant men he cannot compare,
Friends, comrades of trials - many gunned down;
He lays forlorn on a battlefield over there.
God help us all is his dying prayer,
And returned thanks for the grace of love he's found;
It's agony perishing alone with abounding despair.
As his last moments slips by with tender care,
It's only the body he commits to the grave-mound.
He lays forlorn on a battlefield over there.
It's agony perishing alone with abounding despair.
