A lily is damned in the heat of an autumn that never began.
A man is a lily beautiful and damned, wild and dancing.
Jimmy is wild and dances in the back of his Volkswagen van.
In the back of his van there are people and girls and drink and drugs.
In the back of his van there are books.
In his mind there are questions.
He is a dreamer and he is a man.

Old Jimmy is from Wolfsburg Germany.
Old Jimmy, he grins just like me.
Old Jimmy I was told you live on a barge and are something else.
Old Jimmy I was told we were alike.
Old Jimmy I was told you and I are the same.

He whispers in the pale light of a morning in June.
It is his time to whisper some new beat and stop.
It is his time to dance in the crisp winds of another autumn.
I face his delirium in my own mirror.
Against the race is a leering timebomb world that pollutes.
We save ourselves now or we lose.

Someday the world will trade and share and give and produce what it needs.
Old Jimmy you are ahead of your time.

I was told once that Jimmy and I were the same.
A friend of mine told me.
He is beautiful, a builder who lives in a tree house.
My friends are beautiful.

Old Jimmy is beautiful and he wants to go home.
I understand him.
Someday I will sit on a barge telling stories for food and gas.

Jimmy some day we meet, you are like I am.
The waves are too high and we can’t dodge them anyway.
Old Jimmy, I was told you and I are as alike as sun is to sun.
Oh Jimmy, did you see the moon last night?
I did.
