and what good did ray’s outburst do him

on the long line at

burger king?

as ray lay bleeding

and the rain coming

down in torrents-

getting ray all soaked last week

meant nothing to him

now-

as he lay bleeding

and the check bounced, and

the mets lost, and

the flat tire on I95 was

like so many dead leaves as

ray lay bleeding

and his little boy

who meant

very little to ray

then-

was very much on his mind

now-

as ray lay bleeding in the ravine-

as lights from passing semis shot over

him

and ray could have sworn he heard

a coyote, or

a wild dog move

toward him over

the pass

as he lay bleeding
