we always say some day, sometimes that day never comes, why not make it happen for that persom today,,,
“unexpected surprises sometimes comes
from just a smile”
Coni Lea
Harris

if I asked you
would you come get me
take us for a country drive
have a picnic just so we can breathe
fresh clean air
draw art in the sky with clouds
to feel the grass underneath
our feet, to tasted the fruit of the
apple tree, to walk with me
let me take you
back in my childhood memories
the ones some got to miss
being raised in the city

if I asked you
would you take me for
a walk in the moonlight
along the beach, we could have
a surprise fondue party, watch
the stars dance, listen to the
singing we're proud tides
free, our ancestors
of ghost~sailors whispering
across the waters with
the breeze

if I asked you to
would you take me
out for a night of
dinner~n~dancing
I'll even go Dutch to pay
my share
we could try a new restaurant
you've been wanting to try,
but not alone, or maybe a
restaurant we've been
dying to share
dance for a couple of hours
maybe go for a late night
coffee, 'til we find we're
watching the sunrise together
we could even go to the casino
just to be part of the nightlife
once in a full~moon

if I asked you
would you take me
to the movies, to watch
something I've wanted to
see for so long, eat popcorn,
drink a pop, you won't even
get mad if I miss my mouth, spill my
drink or laugh to loud, we could
even rent a movie, and create
our own theater, invite some
friends over, just relax.

if I asked you to
would you take me to
the zoo, to see wildlife
on the brink of extinct
talk to exotic birds
amazed at the monkeys, swinging
by their tail, from rope~to~rope,
while keeping their eyes locked on us
holding each other as we back away from the next scene,
gasping a gator could be so long, dazzled a turtle
could crawl being that huge
a giraffe can be so tall, buffalo are still
around linking you back to
history's past, and can stink
so bad.
if only to point, to giggle, we could
even have a hotdog, grab a
snow cone, ride the mystery
train, where the narrator takes
us to a safari in the jungle,
choo~chooing us back in our childhood
days, from the old man who
lived in a crooked house, racing over the
voice asking
"who's going over my bridge", ever wonder
what happened to the old woman who lived
in the shoe, do you know one of kids, a chill
runs down your spine as
fairy~tales became reality as you step thro'
the doorway

maybe no one
has ever has asked you to do any of these
things, so maybe I should turn this
question around
maybe I should ask
you whether you would like to go
do one of these or all of these things just for
adventure sake,
after all we have a lifetime, but some how some
some day never comes, so some never do,

so I thought just in case
you never thought to ask some one
why not today.
after all lives do get so busy
then when it's to late, the should've's
keep haunting you till days end
so, just in case, if I never get the
chance to take you physically, I
wrote this, to sweep you away for
a few seconds
like I hope I just did.

Coni........I just posted my first poem under the new system and it all bunched together. I had it the way I wanted it and don't know what they have done. But it is terrible right now. And your prose could be a poem. It takes a lot of cutting though. I probably could do it. BUT CAN'T
SO LONG AS I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY DID TO THE EDITING FEATURE. Bill Murray
