Finally, and I think all are praying that there is much more coming...

Picture Courtesy of Flickr...Rain on the Adelaide Plains!

It came tumbling down
in Rapunzel like tresses
hitting upon the ground
so parched, it surely blesses
every tree, shrub, roots
even the old black stump
transforming the landscape
to a continental paradise instead of the dump

It soothes, caresses,
fills every dried water hole
no fun for naughty Wombats
who dug in like the proverbial mole
even slithering fiends
desperate for the hibernating drink
have taken their final fill
retreating now, for the long season think

No more ants a marching
for they knew it was coming
scurrying to and fro
so happy you could hear them humming
Ole Jeremiah has dug deep
till the ponds team with his kind again
in readiness for the next of his offspring
like it did, way back when

Rain shouldered the arid plains
rivers ran, fast and furious
green grass frequented the hills
nothing was out of place nor curious
sheep grazed in the paddocks
heavy in lamb for the spring
Kookaburra's laughed in the Gum trees
making fun of any jolly old thing

If there is ONE thing we need in abundance
which is forecast for the next few days
it's Rain, Rain and More Rain
take away this dry drawn out haze
Oh Lord if You Please
send us our quota and more
for all will be happily rejoicing

As the RAIN gives us balm for our eyesore!

It is amazing how much weather can affect our hearts, our minds, our bodies and our lifes. Just getting out of hospital today I couldn't believe how cold it was but the weekend is promising warm sunny days and just the thought makes me feel a little better.

Ch'erie, I'm soaked all over with your splendid imagery,
I hope and pray it keeps raining until you have all you need
and then some!

this is most certainly a write to bathe in, and the richness of its descriptions tumble like those Rapunzel-tresses you mention. This poem is like an oasis in the desert and it's wonderful to see nature come alive within it. More, please - of both!! :)) xx

Boy, you all really suffered out there this past year. And your poetic language is so colorful and fresh to these "American" ears that I took a trip halfway around this world. I hope these droughts won't become a permanent feature for you in Australia Keep the rains and your poetry coming...great verses!

I'm so glad you're getting the rain you need! May it come as gentle showers, a soaking, blessed rain, not as a flood - in Jesus' Name, Amen. We're supposed to get rain, too, along with the possibility of severe - say a prayer we get the rain and not all the other stuff!!

Beautiful poem of wonderment and gratitude. Well done!
