  DEAR LORD

Dear Lord if I have to be this way,

Please take me now I cannot stay.

I canít recall what I said yesterday,

I dread repeating it anyway.

And donít let me stay so long a while,

That I have to fake another smile,

When the packer in the grocery store,

Inquires if I need his help once more

Alas that phone's ringing off the hook.

My granddaughter says sheís learning to cook,

And that her first baby is on the way,

So Dear Lord donít take me TODAY!

Now I want to stay on my sojourn,

Until my new great-grandchild is born.

And maybe until there is another,

Who will call me great-grandmother

Old age isnít perfect but itís never a bore,

'Specially with new little ones to adore.

And so, Dear Lord, I pray you'll ignore,

All that dumb stuff that I told you before.
