What's that whisper? Did you hear it?
Something's foul and o' I fear it.
What was that just passing by,
A trifling trick of mind or eye?
It may just be the faucet leaking,
Just a board or door that's creaking.
Speaking only to my dread,
Sinking deep within my head.
What's that sound? It's coming closer!
Eyes are starring from the poster.
Run, I would, if legs would let me.
Stunned from fear of what could get me.
It may just be a branch of tree,
Tapping, as it's flapping free.
Be that what it may or might,
I flee from fearlessness to fright.
What's that noise? I say I know it!
Let it come, I'll surely show it!
Can I fight what I can't see?
This isn't right, this can not be.
Remember what I say with care.
This is what I must beware.
There is no one with better view,
To scare yourself more than you.
