Bump In The Night

Another Halloween poem but a more Poe-esque style and good for any scary night.

Something tried to tell me something. Maybe, it’s me

Some strange, unseen being sees me everywhere I’ll be

Something knows and I, too, know somewhere in this vicinity

Some strange sense of loneliness is not meant to be

Once for yes. Two for no.

Any odd count will let me know you’re here

Be it right or be it wrong
Bump in the night. The night is long I fear.

Someone may be blindly haunting where they were before

Someone trying not to scare me scares me even more

Something lurks and I, too, lurk somewhere I might explore

Some odd nook, a cabinet, a room, or corridor

Once for yes. Two for no.

Knock, tap, or bang to tell me that you’re near

Be it right or be it wrong
Bump in the night. The night is long I fear

Sometimes this unsettling substance that persists this eve

Somehow places its existence where I can believe

Sometimes not but I will know this world I’ll surely leave

Somehow, if there’s a beyond someplace you may conceive

Was that ‘yes’ or was that ‘no’?

Was it the house that settled? Oh, my dear!

Am I right or am I wrong?
Bump in the night. The night is long I fear.
