the day i lost my best friend

how i feel lost after my friend is gone

  Wooden smiles and empty frames
Adorn the space
Over a warm hearth –
A shrine to domestic bliss.

Blue mountains stand between
Something else and me -
A moment? A chance… a respite?
Two people on a cliff
Silent, still, in the twilight.

There was a yellow moon in my past.
A brief, blinding promise
Fluttering on a stiff evening breeze…
A dream, if you wish.

I engineered a daring escape
From the prison of my despair
It was me – it was me
That brought us here.

Each night I make my anguished peace
To the comforting sight
Of your shirt, coat and tie, neatly creased
Ready for a new day to dawn.
And a new day will dawn…
… every day…
… again and again…
… on and on.
