Another piece from the collection I call "Lannie's Eco-Angst".

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Make it gigantic, design it to sprawl.

Build us a future of glorious days:

traffic jams, asphalt, and car-exhaust haze.

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Flatten those tree-hugging eco-freaks all.

People want knick-knacks, not sycamore trees;

Big Macs and pizzas, not blue jays and bees.

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Cave in the burrows of anything small.

Groundhogs are rodents, they're better off dead.

Animal rightists can't mess with my head.

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Smash down that forest, and don't ever stall.

Bring in the concrete trucks, make no mistake.

Scrape off that hillside, and fill in that lake.

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Gonna get rich. My, I'm having a ball!

Nature's for pansies and weasels and such.

Three dozen shoe stores ain't overly much.

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Kickbacks won't weaken that structural wall.

Years from now when it collapses on kids,

I'll be Bahamian, counting me quids.

Bulldozer, bulldozer, build me a mall.

Grander than Babylon, ninety feet tall.

Square miles of plastic where green used to be...

Bulldozer, we're a good team, you 'n me!

Wonderful poem! It's so ironically light and clever, mocking, and beneath the words there is such a haunting of sorrow.

Now this is funny, while reading your poem, listening to my music, the next song on the list was..."Shake Your Money Maker" Okay, just thought it was funny.
