A poem written to commemorate a friend's upcoming birthday.

A birthday is a special time
For parties and reflection
A chance to view life in its prime
If by your own selection
A point to see how you have grown
From days left in the past
Since you have made this life your own
In every wish you’ve cast.

A birthday brings a chance to share
The joy you have inside
Since few feelings ever compare
To those of birthday pride
This point, when blessings ‘neath the sun
Embrace the years ahead
Should be enjoyed, ‘til day is done
And the last card is read.

A birthday is a hopeful time
When you look toward tomorrow
And see a life still in its prime
With moments left to borrow
So, light the candles on your cake
With friends and family near
Then, celebrate the strides you’ll make
Throughout the coming year.

Great poem! A birthday truly is a time to reflect, and to rejoice in one's accomplishments. Also, I think a birthday is a way for adults to be a kid again!
