A poem expressing the poet's deepest plea for fellow writers, should she lose her abilities.

If my ink should ever run dry
I’ll pray you’ll help to show
The beauty that once made me cry
In words I used to know
The verbs and nouns, stanzas and lines
Of rhyme or free-verse form –
Meaning for which each poet pines
As he thinks ‘yond the norm.
Should my pencil be worn and dulled
With no sharpener in sight
I’ll pray the words o’er which you’ve mulled
Will offer much delight
Through strophes about flowers and trees
And sonnets from the shore
I know you’ll guide each soul with ease
Just as you’ve done before.
If my bright screen should fade to black
And God should call me home
I’ll pray that you’ll pick up the slack
However long you roam
Then, I will smile because we’ve dared
To cast our hearts upon
The divine gifts we’ve freely shared
With others, here and yon.
