A long time ago in a valley of dreams
A child stood and looked to the sky
His heart was as bright as a million moonbeams
His smile was as warm as July
He longed to embrace every facet of life
From morning until day was through
Yet, lost in a world of commotion and strife
He did not know if that would do
The child saw a world where birds freely soared
A place where hardship was not known
Somewhere the sunlight was blessed by the Lord
Where no one was left on their own
He knew such a world would likely never be
Despite this, he prayed every night
That he would exist just long enough to see
His dream brought into the limelight.
Years progressed onward and the child grew
A man born from boyhood days
He never lost sight of the dream that he knew
His dream of a world lauding praise
As months and years passed, his life stayed the same
Like others, hardship found his door
But, never once did the man hold any blame
Content with what life held in store.
One winter, about twenty-five years ago
The man had become old and frail
He sat by his window and looked at the snow
Only to see a wayward quail
The quail crossed the sky, contented and free
With nary a care to be found
The elderly man had lived enough to see
His childhood world come around.
For the rest of the day, the old man just smiled
Grateful for the life he had seen
He recalled his ways and his dreams, as a child
How sweet and how valued they’d been
Then, he looked to the future, his heart in his hand
And pondered life beyond the grave
His dreams had come true , just as God had planned
Because his life had been so brave.
He had been a brave child who had longed for good
A brave man who never asked why
Each step of his life was one he understood
He was always willing to try
Therefore, in his golden years, the old man was blessed
By the dream he had always carried
One moment to prove that he had passed God’s test
Before his soul was gone and buried.
His time was a blessing to those who had known him
From childhood ‘til his final hour
His dream for a better world shall never dim
As long as our lives empower
The beauty we view around us every day
Even in commotion and strife
The dreams of a man need not fade away
The moment he departs this life.
So, join with me now, come one and come all
Wherever in this world you roam
Think back to your dreams, how great or how small
Let each one return to your home
Then, carry them with you, each day that you live
Even if they are not to be
For just like the man, you have so much to give
In your life blessed by bravery.
