The Pearl

This poem was written for my friends' upcoming wedding anniversary and vow renewal ceremony.

For June & Marc

Upon the seashore lies a pearl; indeed, a priceless sight
A beautiful creation, enclosed in an oyster’s might
A small, yet cherished fortune etched so proudly on display
A sign of tender love to last forever and a day
The pearl is fashioned over time, grown far beneath the earth
A breathtaking expression of true miracles and worth
A grain of sand within a shell; this pearl in life shall yield
A testament of courage and God’s destiny revealed.

Just like the pearl upon the shore, your love has spanned the years
You’ve formed a wealth of hopes and dreams, through hard work and through tears
Your lives have grown stronger and surer, as you’ve forged ahead
With love remaining certain, as it was the day you wed
Your bond has fashioned over time and brought tremendous pleasure
A wonderful example that such love is quite a treasure
Your two lives joined, embraced as one united grain of sand
Your marriage is a blessing, sanctified by God’s command

The moment when your two hearts met, your pearl readied for life
‘twas touched by faith and smoothed by hope ‘til you were man and wife
Then on the day your lives were one, your fond pearl came to be
A sign of tender love to reign throughout eternity
The years have passed and your pearl is perfect and flawless, still
Your hearts are true , your marriage strong; indeed, this is God’s will
This day, your lives have vowed, once more, to share a lifetime through
You’ve reaffirmed the hopes and dreams you’ve valued since I do.

I pray that you shall live in love until your setting sun
I pray your hearts shall remain bound, never to be undone
I pray that you shall always know the beauty in God’s favor
That every day your lives shall see is something you will savor
Most of all, I pray that you will look back and remember
The years you’ve known and goals you’ve shared, since your love was an ember
The romance and the blessings lived and those yet to unfurl
As you go forth, as man and wife, with your love’s sacred pearl.

"...a sign of tender love..." you wrote, making this poem a vow of itself, and coming from a friend it will be another pearl to be treasured long after the renewal is done.
A pearl of a poetess you are.

Georg
