This poem was inspired by my friend's little 4 year old niece's battle with terminal cancer. Rosie lost her fight, this past week, and the poem was written just a few hours before God called an end to her suffering.
|
Look homeward, Rosie, let your spirit soar
Across the wide wonder that leads to God’s door
The light from your smile will kindly lead the way
To where other angel children and you’ll play
Look homeward, Rosie, with hope in your eyes
Your beautiful comfort shall calm the goodbyes
Your wings are now ready; your halo is too
God’s arms are stretched opened; He’s waiting for you
Look homeward, Rosie, let your heart find peace
Make your way to Heaven on clouds of white fleece
So soon now, you’ll slumber in eternal rest
Leaving us with memories for which we are blessed
Look homeward Rosie, it is quite all right
You deserve the best; you have waged such a fight
You are so inspiring, you’re precious and rare
I know you will be awaiting us there
Look homeward, Rosie, spread your wings and go
Find your way to Heaven and the quiet you’ll know
One day you will tell us of the gifts you’ve found
How the Lord and His angels had shown you around
Look homeward, Rosie, you need not ask why
As Heavenly angels sing a lullaby
Your work, here on earth, is just about done
Fly high toward the moon and relax with the sun
Look homeward, Rosie, and do not have fear
You’ve made such a difference to those of us here
You’ll be our protector from your Home afar
I’ve no doubt in Heaven, you will be a star
Look homeward, Rosie, close your eyes and sleep
Your heart is a gift that we will always keep
We love you, we’ll miss you, but we’ll meet you one day
Beyond the walls of Heaven where angel babes play

Jill,
What an endearing tribute to the little one. It's sad when anyone dies, but when a little one, it's unbearable. But the joy of happiness rings in your voice, for she will be one with the Lord.

Such bittersweet words to say goodbye to yet another angel, maybe only poets know how it feels no matter of whom the angel is...
