Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks. ~ Plutarch ~

 A Painter

A canvas stands bare awaiting for strokes
Imagination of mind the painter’s cloak
Pen as the paintbrush held in old hand
Backdrops and backgrounds with precision demand

Palette of mind held in colors to share
Invisibly floating while grasping at air
Reflections sought then penned to the page
Darkness to light where they find their way

Desktop with metronome ticking away
Cobwebs in corners reflects candles spray
Wisps of foul cigarette smoke dancing away
Yellow stained fingers with thought and dismay

For naught all be of reflection your own
Poetic freedom expressed but alone
To capture on canvas a vision to see
Touching of those their hearts to be free

Hands of the painter a pen used instead
For visions some lovely some sad to be bred
Some memories are captured some fantasy spread
Span within all who write visions in heads

We create pictures, and touch many hearts
Creating a painting for others to cart
A gift or a vision in all we are blessed
In each other’s way we all can express

Experience or naught each tidbit we share
Carefully thought with paintbrush we dare
Color the world for others to see
Appreciate or naught a portrait will be

Excellent excellent writing! You have touched many and this is your gift. A gift of self-expression where all can express themselves in writing.

Gorgeous piece, Carol! You've 'exposed' poets for what they are, painters of words, in a soft yet firm awareness of Nature/Us/Spirit.

Dear Carol,
Beautifully written!
This is my favorite verses:
"We create pictures, and touch many hearts
Creating a painting for others to cart
A gift or a vision in all we are blessed
In each otherís way we all can express"

To paint or to write well is a gift from God!

In my review of your poem "Wings of the Wind of Love" I compared your work already with a beautiful painting that unfolds before your eyes.

In this new masterpiece you describe the whole process of how a poem is formed and painted. With every verse I can see the strokes of the paintbrush giving more shape to the picture it paints.

You use your pen as the paintbrush of the master, YOU ARE THE MASTER !!!

Fantastic work Carolee, this is a real masterpiece

You write a beautiful picture. I can hear the metronome in the background as the smoke dances!

A painter, like a poet, is difficult to describe. You've done very well here. I'm immediately reminded of Elton John's classic, ďVincent .Ē

I don't collect books or poetry, but I do collect paintings when I can afford them. There's something about depth of the good oil painting that I love.

Great images creations herein, Carol, and I like, I liked very much the lancing from painting to printed page, you did that superbly. Below is merely an example of what I mean . . .
