The thing about being “in love” is when it’s there its wide open. But its’ wide open in a conditional way, once replaced by friendship love the door closes. ~Lily of Lough Neagh~

 It was conditional

We shared an art, art of the pen
But it was conditional
We shared a dream once visions opened
Things changed, it was conditional

While I aspired to write as he
For the beauty he released
The visions created adored
He no longer visits me,
it was conditional

My heart forever loves
No stones are ever bore
But for now he did abdicate
And for thee all too late
For he… it was conditional

For many will love and care
And some human condition spare
For though it conditional
For some not so rare

For sadly you’re scored
Now soon ye ignored
To be never more
For it was conditional

For I grow out of beauty
Yet naïve are mine eyes
Thought visions were same
Naught now claim revised
For it was conditional

Once admired each phrase
Beauty now holds its shame
He spat out her fruit
Bad hand like the suit
For it was conditional

For also friends thought
But realized guess naught
Though always she’ll share
The fruits that she bares
For her, t’isn’t  conditional

As I have stated before, this style of writing is not my favourite. However, what you have expressed through your verses is a theme with which I am far too familiar and, as I read, the wounds are reopened. That means your poetry "speaks" to the depth of my being as it brings tears. Love and best wishes,

It's good you can keep conditional love, some are not capable of doing this. Those that cannot do not know how to love

It is very heartbreaking when you have known someone for a long time and have them walk away from you not even willing to be friends. Thank you everyone for the lovely reviews

It's not love if it is conditional. To me it reads like you gave your all and devotion then when you parted he could not even hold you as a friend. I believe that happens this day and age.

You have very clearly shown how the rake operates when he seduces a woman and then leaves her in the lurch. It's so easy for them to do it again and again because he has a condition to his love that she does not. Touching, but oh so true.

Carol, When I love it is unconditional, excepting the bad with the good. For the most part it works out...

My dear dear Lily, how sad that another would treat you in this way. A fine lady you are and well respected by many here. Such a sadness to this artistic poem of yours.

I bow and tip my hat to you

This is really sad. When "love" is conditional, you may not call it love anymore as it is selfish and devaluated to a medium of exchange.

Whatever you write about, you make a great work of it

Love sucks more times than it pleases I think, Carol. For some men, and I was one for a large port of my life, Love is exactly what you relate so eloquently here . . . Conditional. Sorry I am late getting to this. AOL has been down, plus other problems.

And in such sadness growth is evident... and obviously needed.

Lily,
such a sad account, conditional love is not what i call love. who ever he is, it is his loss. Even in sadness your pen and spirit come through your words beautifully.

So sad, these conditional connections. Well penned and poignant.
Reviewed by John Domino 6/18/2012
This is a sad yet very well expressed poem one can relate about too many relationships today. This conditional love bears little or no fruit. The alternative unconditional "Agape" love of Jesus provides healthy fruit so that relationships can blossom and grow joyful.

Peace and love,

It seems that no matter what you write, though it be sad, it comes out beautiful! Pain spurs growth and growth is beautiful.

Love ya!

I can't imagine what would inspire this. I love without condition and forever. Wonderful write though just not a happy one, which I I favor in your writings.

Stay well and keep writing
