“If only. Those must be the two saddest words in the world.” ~Mercedes Lackey~

 Innocent Eyes

What to say to innocent eyes
Tears that well are my demise
To just caress her wilting wings
How much sadness it doth bring

Lost in eyes of emerald green
Penetrating radiance gleams
Deep into my soul it seems
Tear stained cheeks reflecting me

Inner secrets though not said
One of which were always dread
Soulful secrets not be kept
Touch of light now are swept

Projector runs a movie screen
For that which were not serene
Plays the days of were untrue
That of which you wish not viewed

Turning back the clock of time
Distance past reflects a rhyme
For a day though wished were mine
Sadness rings it’s ugly chime

Now a face so worn with time
Creased in sorrow not sublime
Heart doth break in sorrow fought
Many lessons sadly taught

But naught lost the lesson learned
For each one all must discern
What is right and what is true
For everyone a right to choose

My gentle dove of purity
Innocent eyes so searchingly
Reads this man his inner soul
Now a story doth unfold

Regrets now wash over me
For the things thought not foreseen
For wishes thought to turn back time
To hold you close and make you mine

Awww, so touching Carolee, makes me want to give you a hug and a soft smile.
Beautiful expression here, and the exposure of a lionesse's heart. How sweet. ;-)

Hugs and soft smiles forever

My dear Lily, where do all these painful thoughts come from? Whomever this man is that hurt you I hope has many regrets. Yes, I am sure to lose someone as precious as you brings many regrets to him.

Well composed and thought out from your point of view.

I bow and tip my hat to you

How very sad this young man missed the boat. From all I see you are a lovely young woman.

The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful. Though I'm not sure of the meaning, especially at the end.

Carol, Wow-a mainstream for all of us, but "if only" hadn't
happened you would not have written this heartening poem...
from the depths of your soul!

Always,

Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda. Heart broken. Lessons learned. Put the learned lessons to good use. It is a shame the mistakes we make haunt us throughout our loves.

Not only the words "if only" are such a sad words, how many people have thought, have said, have screamed in despair, "if I could turn back the time".
Let us all think before we make our decisions, every second that passes by can never be turned back anymore.
Beautiful write Carolee and again good food for thought
