Those who are faithless know the pleasures of love; it is the faithful who know love's tragedies. ~Oscar Wilde~

 Love is Precious

I should have seen the signs
Instead I hid the truth
While saying that you loved me
Another you did use

So well it thought be hidden
And times you said untrue
For only couch to lay on
How better I did knew

You said it was my problem
For if I only said
The problem be resolved
And not for her to bed

My love it was so given
Completely and so true
Yet unto me you hid her
Even though I knew

So sit in awe and silence
Ponder why this is
What happened in this world
For love and faithfulness

Was it only in my heart
For love I know what’s true
Deception is so acrid
You thought you were so smooth

For 17 months you hid her
And hoped I would not see
But something naught I told you
A Seer always sees

You said if only I had come
For when you wanted me
Then faithfulness was bound
Is this the way to be?

For love is something precious
Not something to be used
Faithfulness abides
When the love is true

Love is precious Lily, how sad that someone would betray such a beautiful person.

Good poetry shares both joy and pain; love and despair; triumph and tragedy.

I consider this to be very good poetry. Dick

This is a great poem Lily. It says a lot about being devoted to someone and the pain of not having that devotion returned. I agree with the first two people. I don't want to be put in a category of men like Ronald Hull seems to think. I am devoted to my girl and would never do anything to lose what we have. I LOVE HER! I'm not a religious fanatic and I don't have some instinct to jump in bed with any woman. That's ridiculous

Great work Lily

Love is precious my dear Lily. I disagree with Ronald Hull, this is his own construct and view. There are many men in this world that cherish their wives as I do mine. I would never do a thing to risk what we have. This man that did this to you, it becomes his loss. Beautiful write and I agree with Merriweather, there is much truth in those last two lines.

I bow and tip my hat to you

this poem is constructed so well and there is so much truth in the last two lines.

Faithfulness is a religious idea created to try to bring some moral construct to life. Unfortunately, it is in man's genetic nature to seek out others (often very different) and have intercourse with many women. This is a very deep survival instinct that most men have a very hard time ignoring. Women on the other hand, are nurturing for their children and want to make a nest for them to survive. If a woman's survival depends upon a single man, she tends to want to make him faithful. Lying is also a survival instinct. Trying to preserve the best while making excuses for the worst. Once this is understood, most relationship problems disappear.

Love expressed with disappointments very clearly. The heart is so fragile and the mind is so aware. Sad thing is you were the one who truly cared. However, the cheater cheated himself and he has to live with himself because for deep down inside nowhere to run or to hide.

Yours in the Agape love of Christ who is forever true,

John Michael

One day you write about the most beautiful and deep love while the next day you write about bitter pain of unfaithfulness and saying goodbye.
As if you hover between two worlds, two extremes. To me it feels as if you've found the most beautiful, unconditional love and at the same time you try to close a dark chapter of the past.
I hope it are really two worlds for you.
May the pain and unfaithfulness be behind you, part of what has been and never come back anymore.
And may the beautiful love you describe in so many ways be your part for the rest of your life.

Thanks Carolee and much love for you

I love this poem so much, it's amazing how men think we dont know when they cheat, looked into this man's soul and told him in so many words how you felt. Thank you for such wonderful words of truth and keep writing and being inspired.

This brings to mind that famous saying, "If he'll cheat with you, he'll cheat on you."

There is so much pure physical attraction between men and women, I am surprised there isn't even more unfaithfulness going around.

Still, if you are true to yourself, and you give your lover reason to think or believe that you will be faithful, then if you cheat on her you will also be cheating on your good word, which will be tarnished forever by your actions.
