For the meaning of life differs from man to man, from day to day and from hour to hour. What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person's life at a given moment.
~Viktor E. Frankl~

 Reflections of Life

Sometimes we reflect

What is the meaning of life?

For my thought

It’s simple and up to us

First don’t be an arsehole

Be all you can be, give others life

Touch all you can every day

It can be delicious and warm

And then suddenly cold

Leaving a great mystery as why

Sometimes it’s like a maze

You wander through

And aren’t quite sure

Where you will end up

Or like an elevator

It has its ups and downs

Before you level out

To the next floor

There are many open doors

As you go through them

You shut them behind you

Because you know it is the past

And like a poker game

Not always dealt the hand you want

And sometimes the hand you’ve waited for

But through life

We make choices

We think and ponder

We know right from wrong

Although sometimes our own pain

Will take us down the wrong road

In hopes we find escape and peace

At the end, we discover it doesn’t work

We are still left with what we were dealt

So we reflect, knowing it is up to us

Not to repeat the pattern

We are innately loving souls

It is within, although sometimes skewed

It is up to us, to correct the wrongs

Wrongs done to us, and help those who hurt

Because all that happens on our path

Is what makes us strong and better

Although we may not think so

We were given that hand because

They knew we could take it

Even if we face our own mortality

Only the strongest of souls survive

Otherwise we would not be here

To help others along the way

So when you feel you’re at the bottom

When you feel what else can go wrong

Look up and say, thank you

I have been through boot camp

And I made it out

My dear lady Lily, you have presented again something precious and endearing for all of us to reflect on. You have talent and insight and present it well.

I bow and tip my hat to you

It appears your title is exactly how this poem was received by readers, including me. This is a treasureful write, Lily. It makes me want to shrink-to-fit on a 2x3 card, laminate, keep in wallet, remove frequently. It's that good. ~~ Diana

We have to take the good and the bad and learn in every step we take Lily. Life is too short, I know.

Good writing my dear

Been there and done that and lots of practical advice here Lily. Sometimes I get so swallowed up in my own problems I neglect to see what I can do.

I cannot say that I have ever read a more exploring, meaningful poem than this one, Carol. Throughout "Reflection of Life" you gave us so many ideas about what life really is all about, and it is about "us!" We have the choice to remain in that elevator that goes up and down and up and down, until the door finally opens up for the last time for you and there is nothing left, you have spent your whole life closeted inside a box of your own making, never once daring to step out of it as it made its stops and opened its doors, and now it is too late, you are dead.

Poetry doesn't get any better this this.

This is what you call "a Reflection" with a capital R,
It leafs very much food for thought
but................. with a big smile

Thanks for making me thinking about my own life now Carolee
