The suffering of Alzheimer's disease is perhaps borne mostly by the loved ones who can not enter the fantasy of their failing mind...

Young minds with youthful memories, looking out through age-worn eyes

Take solace of their comfort within their daydreams, they are running free

The world around them is a distraction ever trying to shatter their beautiful lies

Can you remember the shine in his eyes when he spoke of times that used to be?

For he is in a landscape filled with memories of happy days and young love

Take solace in the knowledge that the pain of his condition, is yours alone

That he doesn’t recognise your familiar face, and maybe even push and shove

It’s only because you’re a distraction to yourself, in the life he used to own

Bear the sorrow gracefully, and embrace in his make-believe

Lift your heart when you see him, perhaps saying the silliest thing

For this short time is his escape to neither fear nor grieve

He knows not that his end is near, nor the sadness that it brings

Now, this is lovely, my friend. I have seen him/her and I know exactly what you are saying about all of this. Great way to give the understanding--I believe you have completely wrapped Alzheimer's into a comfortable and true expressive package. Great one, David. This is very lovely!
