All that remains
Is in ruin,
Ashes of romantic fire
Akin to the cremated bones
Of kings and generals alike.
You have robbed humanity
Of its essence,
No less a thief
Than Satan’s legions,
Hauling to yourself
A network of honored souls,
An external vascular system
To nourish you,
For surely you contribute nothing
To the sensibilities
Of those you might love,
If only love was an emotion
That you honored.
And now darkness is upon you,
Descending as surely
As the falling sun,
And if you were to look around,
You would see that you are alone.
Fear the darkness, evil knight,
For in it is malice,
Malice, I say again,
Come to claim its’ toll!
And it is you who is marked
Debtor,
To all who you have known,
Or touched,
Or promised,
For the ledger sheet
Has been submitted,
And you are left
Without recourse or friend.
