Senses Desired

Our senses are the essence of our enjoyment of life.

SENSES DESIRED

Not even one month
of winter’s darkness
and white has passed
without all my thoughts
fast forwarding to spring.

If I close my eyes
and rest without sound,
my five senses go to work.
I detect the aroma  of newly cut grass,
delight in the purity of clean air,
overhear birds tweeting their call to mate,
sense sunshine warming me throughout,
while Irish emerald charms my view.

At times, another sensation comes to call
—the awareness of a distinct closeness
with a loved one from above—
one who's come to commune for a while.
Then, in a flash, they’re gone,
leaving me with an inexplicable emptiness
but appreciative, nonetheless,
for that twinkling of interaction between us.

These special moments, these uplifting glimpses will get you through the Winter months David...Another heartfelt piece of poetry...I could smell the newly cut grass, feel the warmth of the sun on my face, hear the birds tweeting, and smell the clean, pure air...! A delight to my senses...
Hugs, Diana...
