My Two Friends

This is dedicated to my two cats Dolly and Lucky. This poem was done for our local animal shelter fund raiser silent auction.

We found them one day in a shelter
Wanting a good home and some loving that is tender
Our two friends have been with us for over five years now
They have comforted me with their soft fur and a meow
One is called Lucky because she was almost put to sleep
Now she thinks our home is for hers to keep
The other is called Dolly for she looks like a little doll
Now both are with us to enjoy playing with a little ball
They wake me with their cold noses on my chin
To tell me it is time to get up and feed them
As they see other animals thru a window and go ballistic
They provide us with their crazy antics
Lucky likes to ride in the basket on my scooter
And makes everyone think it is only for her
Dolly moves off to the side waiting for me to get off
So she can claim the seat even tho it is not soft
Just as quickly as they fall asleep at night like angels they are not
They arise quickly to chase and play with a miller moth
