The delight of your birth and the sweet presence of the pink toes, the perfection of your face, the innocence.
The pain of first steps and the sweet recognition of accomplishment and promise.
And then, the bitterness of first separation; off to school with shoulders hunched against a wind that wasn't there -- the hope
The pang when you fell in love with someone else and they were in the forefront. I was no longer so important, and the sweet knowledge that this was good and right; the fullfillment.
Only God knows how to temper each bitter pain with the sweet healing of His gifts; each disappointment with the comfort of reaching another goal, another star. Each emptiness filled with the blessings that only He can provide.
Oh, let me open my eyes, my ears, and my heart so that all the love, promise and hope He offers can be truly enjoyed and I will be filled with the bittersweet gifts of life.

|As a mother and grandmother, I can identify with your thoughts so well. Now, as some of my grandchildren are starting off to college, and growing away from home, I pray my children will be able to accept the changes with grace.
You have such a beautiful outlook on the changes of life!
