Here's some more 'Pearls of Wisdom' for You!
Yet Another - 'Non-Poem' Poem!
Now I ask you - would I prevaricate?

Beauty
© - Tom Hyland - 10-28-09
Some say That -
Beauty is only Skin Deep.
Others say That -
Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholder.
What do You Say?
If we Assume both Statements to be True -
Then, what about the Corollaries?
Some say That -
Ugliness is only Skin Deep.
Others say That -
Ugliness is in the Eyes of the Beholder.
So - let us Delve a little Deeper
Into the First Premise - Skin.
Some take the Position That -
The Meaning or Connotation is That -
A Person may be Beautiful on the Outside -
But - Ugly Inside!
We’ve All met a Few of Those -
Haven’t We?
Now - How about the Other Premise?
Is its Reverse also True?
Can an Ugly person be Beautiful Inside?
I’d venture to say that Most Are!
Do the Eyes of the Beholder Truly Discern
Between Beauty and Ugliness?
Or - Rather - do their Inner Feelings
Really Interpret what they Think they See?
Now - What about the Median or Middle
Of these Two Dichotomies?
What if Those Who are Deemed
Either Beautiful or Ugly only Represent
Say Ten Percent Each of the Population?
Then - Eighty Percent of Us are Neither Extreme!
Does that Mean We are ‘Chopped Liver?’
Can I get a Big - “Hell No?”
We are Whatever we Think and Feel we Are!
We may not be ‘Beautiful’ but maybe Pretty =
Or Cute, or Handsome - Right?
And we Sure ain’t Ugly!
And - Face it - We represent the Majority!
So - like the Little Engine that Could -
We Think We Are - We Think We Can -
WE KNOW WE ARE!
So - My Dear Friends -
When Anybody tells you that you Are -
BUTT UGLY -
You have my Permission to BELT ‘EM!
In the Immortal Words of John Keats -
In his ‘Ode To A Grecian Urn’
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,
that is all ye know on earth,
and all ye need to know. ...”
Oh - and Finally -
Regarding - BEAUTY -
“Judge Not - Lest Ye Be Judged!”

| Very good. There have been many studies concocted by scientists to pin down just what it is about the human face that causes people to think it is pretty, pleasing, or handsome. They studied babies and their reaction to a supposed ugly face and then a pretty face. The conclusion was that there is a mathematical element to our perception of beauty. It seems that the closer the face is in proportion to this ideal pattern the more beautiful the face seems. As for ugly, well even Quasimodo could look endearing and handsome when he smiled. |

We are Whatever we Think and Feel we Are!
I think you are right, my friend. And right now, I think I'm a very ravenous wolfman in need of another cup of coffee, and a cookie!
