It was the summer

Before my Senior Year.

Someone told My parents

That I should go see

Mrs Schulte…

She needed a babysitter

I knew she had a big Family but it didn’t

Scare me much…

There were six kids in my own family.

It was my first real interview…and

She thought I could handle

The job.

When I got there the next morning

She had a list of instructions

For the day…

Who to wake up in what order,

What to fix for their breakfast

Who had permission to go where,

2 cake mixes, one yellow and one chocolate

to be made for snacks each day…no need to

frost them, just let them have at it and maybe have a

little butter on it if it was hot…

French toast was a bigtime favorite .

I think I remember hamburgers, tunafish,

And cans of soup for lunch.

Many days she would leave a

Pot roast she had started the night before for me to finish

So that supper would be pretty much ready when she

And Dad Schulte got home from work.

I must have done ok

Because she asked me to stay

When school started and get

Every one up, fed and off to

School in the morning.

After school it was

To know where everyone

Was, who was working,

Who was studying and helping

Those that needed it.

Sending the right

Ones off for

Chatecism on the

Right night.

I remember helping
Billy study his

Baltimore Catechism in the

Family Room.

Little did either of us know that

That that would become an

Important part of my life when

I decided to marry a Catholic

And join the church.

And there was trying to get

Bobby to get up in the morning…

A next to impossible task…hope he

Is better at that now….

And Fuppa and her art work

That would end up on my

Mothers fridge.

And there was Janet who

Always had every one of those

Pretty red hairs in place…oh how

I envied her red hair….and

Carolyn and Mary always busy.

Then there were the Shakespere

Arguments with Larry over Lady MacBeth

And Jimmy would bring his friends home

From Harvard and put all of their dirty

Dishes into the oven for me to wash

When I got home from
School on a Monday…

Those were the days my friends……
