A while ago I saw a picture somewhere of a young man pointing a gun to his head. I was not having one of my better days, and this came out.

                                                      A GUN

A gun

Pointed to my head,

Heavy sleek blackened steel.

Do I shoot?

Why not?

Life hurts.

What have I got to live for?

If I pull the trigger

There’ll be a flash

No bang

I’ll be dead

Before the sound reaches me.

I won’t know anything

It won’t hurt

No pain

What a blessing!

succinct and sharp, and it's that
brevity, that no wastage of expression
that makes this work so poignant and effective

fine indeed, Chip

unfortunately an easy way out except for those left behind ...

very effective ...

Stark and real, and sadly, not so uncommon a theme in this life/world, Chip. It is the pain such an event creates and leaves in its wake that is just as or even more tragic. Love and peace to you,
