Your Son

“Mommy!” I hear the life in his voice.
But you have called to talk to me.
He brings me the phone
And we exchange a glance believe me,
You do not want to see.
I take the phone and close my eyes.
Why do you want to talk to me?
Because I have sympathy,
And you left me for someone who doesn’t?
Your tales of woe don’t go past my ears.
Don’t ask me to repeat a word you said.
If you knew who you were talking to-
You would not have thrown me out.
When you are finally done
With whatever this is about,
You tell me to give our son
All of your love.
Like an answering machine
I tell you I will,
But I have never felt so much pity.
Because one day you are going to realize,
No matter what either of us ever said-
I can only give him my love.

John, You seem to be in tune with the part of reality that many run and hide from. Or try anyway.
We can vocally send our love to someone, but when they are in clear focus, we know they are actually only words. Feeling loved and being told about love is two very different things.
Stunning write, that stops the reader's heart.

God give us the strength and power to NOT hurt the ones we love - it is indifference which opposes love, not hate and how much do we give in to it in the face of broken dreams.

John this is a powerfully emotive write. Excellent.

How sad but true and this is a reality like Dave said throughout our country.

What a well-written portrait of a very painful situation. If this is autobiographical, my heart goes out to you and your son. Just last night...my son asked me why I can't move back in with mommy. I know your pain.

This cuts like a knife right to the soul, John. Full of meaningful emotion. Thank you. Love and peace. Regis
