Discernment

Discernment

We see the things we want to see
For nothing comes more naturally
Successfully our scope of care
Ignores the things that are not there.

But love that comes as deep as mine-
That paid the price to be Divine,
Discerns the difference in some way
Between the truth and what you say.

I always took you at your word-
But there are things I have not heard-
Some things that love would put in place,
But you have left an empty space.

For all the things you fail to do
I’m still so much in love with you,
I have no choice but to pretend
That it is really love you send.

But I know what it is love does,
And I know I’m not yours because
You would be different than you are
If I could be your shining star.
