The Box
It was with a certain trepidation
That I did gaze upon the box,
And pined to know what lay within
Its auburn sides and crimson top.
I dared myself to steal a look,
To lift the lid and glance inside
And when the fervour overcame
I heeded not of who may chide.
So inching forward with my mind
I touched upon the timeless walls,
And traced the pattens carved within,
Of long forgotten, bloody wars.
