Silent Scream
by ~ Chanti

Wednesday, January 04, 2006
Not rated by the Author.

A scream that cannot be heard. This poem is not about abortion although this is how it may appear. It was more of an analogous comparison to a state of mind. Not to be taken literally. I enjoy experimenting when writing poetry / prose.

I once watched an abortion video ‘The Silent Scream’
The tiny fetus opened its mouth in a grotesque cry
as the surgeon gouged it from its mother's womb,
with a sharp stainless steel surgical instrument,
dismembering it piece by painful piece.
I cried bitterly and the indelible image remained
etched into the clay of my subconscious
and moulded into harsh shapes of pain.

I relate to the silent scream now.
That voiceless charge cuts through all
erstwhile-held illusions of safety
Life, though buoyed by liquid hope
exists within a chamber
that is seemingly safe
but proves to be rather tenuous
under pressure
The Barmecidal store of plenty,
only a quixotic illusion
built by one's own desire
A desire for a secure space
where there is no fear of future
and thoughts revolve only around 'now'
Alas, so quickly relinquished
in the sluice of blood-stained reality

The scream may be louder
but it remains unheard...

Lovely Chanti,
I Too Have Seen That Video Of The Silent Scream!
I will never forget how that made me feel. The little life had feelings.
And the words of thoughts the little life longing for love & to be held with anticipation, then screaming....
I also relate with understanding your poetic express
"Alas, so quickly relinquished
in the sluice of blood-stained reality

The scream may be louder
but it remains unheard..."

Yes, my silent scream remains within and no, I have not had an abortion but have been aborted of dreams, hopes, desires. I have watched this in my daughters as well. It is painful when life and others steal from your inner core, snuffing out what is precious within all of us. I choose freedom to scream out loud. Liz

The old conundrum: If a tree falls in the forest where no one can hear, does it make a sound? So many have screamed and no one heard their cry.

Good insight.

your analogy is indeed gripping ... the silent scream can be heard only if we are willing to listen ...

Your analogy has powerfully expressed the indescribable pain of the "silent scream" whatever it may refer to. This cuts to the soul, Chanti. Love, peace, and strength to you,

and it will remain unheard until someone like us comes along to call the plight of the innocent. We must make sure that the silent scream is heard throughout the universe. Whenever I hear of a woman having an abortion, I get very sick to my tummy, and then cry for the little voice that will never be heard.

But that little voice can be heard, through people like us, who care.

If the world cared more for the sanctity of human life, than wars and politics, then we would have a very wonderous world indeed. Those who think that life is expendable, have no idea, just how much it isn't. At last count, there were 6 billion people in the world. But this is still a big planet, and we can all get along, trust in one another and respect each other.

When everyone understands that, then there will be no need for wars, dirty politics, hate, disrespect, bigotry, spite, and all the rest.

Thnx for sharing Chanti...this is a very powerful and emotive write.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, maybe too stubborn for my own good, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your still very sad and very terrified little sister, Barbie

One of the oldest poems I have written is an anti abortion poem and one of it's lines is "A silent scream and then the the worst was done, to an unborn child" So many screams that are never heard! and I don't just mean the aborted ones. Excellent write. PIerre.

Perhapes the world is made that way. The wavelength of "silent screams" does not reach the ears. Or it is heard too too late. There were slaves who suffered and built those monuments, pyramids, Taj Mahal... things we call "wonders of the world"... but the creators of those beauties died each day and raised again. Michael Angelo lived a life of miserry and deprivation and gave us the Seinstien chapal art. He got this appreciation when he dived into "silence".
The schemes of God, Chanti, are in nursed in silence. The silence is begining and the silence is end.

This beautiful poem and the pain and wisdom it contains refelects the depth of your soul. I am very inspired. Happy New Year to you!!!!

Know exactly what you mean. Sadly, I suspect most people know the feeling. Even children. No, especially children. Children and
artists. After all, great art comes from the child within. . .guess in a way we should be grateful that the silent scream is always there in the background. If only it would stay there!! Thank you for brining it out in the light for a moment. H e l p s.

Profound ponderings. I have just recently been thinking about such analogies - sometimes we scream louder within our silence than we ever could by outwardly physically screaming; and so often such screams go unheard. Those of us who are keenly empathetic - we hear the screams - always. Some would say we are cursed; but... I say that we are blessed by being endowed with such empathy. -- Jeff

Can totally relate, whether it is about abortion or not, Chanti. I think each wounded soul probably bears witness to the piercing scream that is heard from within - while the face continues to bear the smile without. Both instances are cause for lament. The tortured little ones live on and their wounds continue to bleed. Such a sad note on which to wish you a heartfelt New Year Greeting, but I am so pleased that you have found happiness and I am deeply appreciative and moved by your love and support over the months gone by. Bless you, Chanti; you are a very special and dear soul and spirit. LOL Kate xx
