Your Loving Eyes

Your eyes are so kind,
They sparkle with gentle acceptance.
They reach into my soul, and hold my heart
In a cradle so soft,
I feel all my fear and all my pain
Melt like butter, swimming in warm syrup.

I learned long ago,
That words could not be trusted.
Words that signaled love often came with pain.
“I love you” seldom meant
“You will feel my love”.

Later, I learned that eyes
Always tell the truth.
They do not, cannot, ever lie.

When I look into your eyes
I see your tears, as you feel my pain.
I feel your excitement when you share my joy.
I see my own worthiness
Reflected in the deep, clear pool of your soul.

In that moment,
I feel as if there is one heart
Beating of both of us,

And,

In that moment,
I see, in you, the infinite eyes of God.
