This is written in the knowledge that my expartner is now dying of cancer, and I am confused. |
|
Another Old Soldier dies;
is there anyone there, is there a brass band?
NO!
He dies quietly in pain and paupersim;
He dies in confusion and fear.
I have walked this path so many times;
But not with someone I loved
I cannot rescue him this time;
I can only let him die with dignity.

Your final line, Monsignor, says what has to be said and what has to be done. If there is no way back, then may the passing be gentle and kind.
