A brief poem written in the pits of despair.

Gone

The cannibalistic barbs,
shrouded in words,
silently rip at the flesh of my ego
and erode my soul
until what remains is shot through
with hopelessness and despair,
resembling its original state but little.
My essence evaporates into
a vacuous memory –
nary a hair persists intact.
Discouraged,
despondent,
dejected.
I have disappeared.

It’s funny how we get to write good poetry when feeling a bit down.

Strong emotions shared with sharp and vivid imagery!

I'm getting used to you, Susan. I do hope you don't stay "Gone" for long.

Richard
