Sned a Smile is a poem from 'Poems for 3-7 years' written for children aged 3-7 years. Written to encourage values such as kindness, caring, sharing in the youngest in our society.

This is one of the 41 poems in  'Poems for 3-7 years' by Dr Audrey Coatesworth.

Picture - for poem 'Send a smile' -  is a drawing by a five year old to illustrate this poem - see  - or via

1)Read to young chilldren, 2) Let them 'draw' their meaning of the poem eg see picture and 3) Help them or older children make a poetry book from the poems.

    Send A Smile
Sit down and close your eyes
Sshh - say    not    one   word
Listen - very carefully
Soon - 'quiet' can be heard
Think of a little girl or boy
In a country far away
Someone who has nothing
Who never gets to play
Then, send to that child
A smile - from you - today
Watch it travel through the sky
Yes, it will find its way
One day - you may need
Someone to smile or play
Remember - what you send
Will come back one day
Send a smile - send a smile
Make it bright as bright can be
Send it with this message
'Love to you from me'
