This poem for children, Letter to Mrs Mouse, is from 'Growing Up' by Dr Audrey Coatesworth( see signed books). It is a metaphorical story based on a real 'mouse'- about respecting other people's property.Read to children, but don't explain - let the poem give the message.

Letter To Mrs Mouse

Mrs Mouse could I request

You do not use my home

Please keep out of all my rooms

Where you’re not free to roam

When you ran along the pipes

In my room the other night

I nearly fell out of bed

You gave me such a fright

I thought the cupboard was secure

But yet you made me jump

When I opened up the door

And I gave my head a bump

The apples in the larder

That I placed upon the shelf

Are not put there for you to eat

I want them for myself

Your habits quite disgust me

You smell and you‘re not clean

You may be called a field mouse

But I don’t know where you’ve been

If you will stay out of doors

You can use the garden shed

In winter it will keep you warm

And I will give you bread.

I will not use a mouse trap

I could not hurt you like that

But if you don’t heed my word

I might just get a cat !

Having read the poem Audrey, I visited your children's website and really liked it. I share your vision of supporting children's practice and understanding of morality, this is what makes them happy and will make the world a brighter place. Great contribution!
Be well and happy!
