After fifty years
Fifty years, now together
On the sofa we sit
You watch television
I embroider or knit
You read the paper
Sudoku I play
We chat, often laugh
As we pass through each day
We discuss or argue
We still have our views
And keep up to date
As we listen to news
The grim reaper has been
More than once to our door
Stolen our health
But took nothing more
He couldn't destroy bodies
Though severely he tried
And our spirit remains
Many tears we have cried
I often can't breath
Your joints can cause pain
We are warm and not hungry
So we can not complain
Those holidays we missed
Would just memories be
We imagine and talk
About what we didn't see
Our hidden companions
Patience and hope
Stay close at hand
And they help us to cope
Few visitors arrive
Family live far away
While we still have each other
We shall conquer each day
What more can I say?
Nothing
Except
We were truly most fortunate
That day back in time
When our paths briefly crossed
And we heard love's bell chime
