Participated in an archaeological dig

Past meets Present.
Fifty yards from Crooked Creek
a soft breeze blows
through the cottonwoods
on a Kansas farm
Voices heard from present and past
as metal and other hand tools hit the soil.

Unearthed pieces of pottery,
a stone pipe,

shell beads from the Gulf Coast
lay in amongst dark colored ashes.
Corn cob remains and remanents of buffalo bone
lets today's voice know
they stand where others had stood long ago.
